Hi, Jon. I think the poll winner is probably the most elegant approach. Thanks for your willingness to hear out the users!

Regarding the field changes: (I know it's not a literal change of field as would be the Notes/Keywords switch, but) isn't this more or less what happens when I change the reference type, viz., that some fields change their meaning? Rather than making things confusing, it seems to help extend the usefulness of the app, as you can minimize the screen/data elements while making them multipurpose as needed.

Since the toggling can already be done via a preference setting, it doesn't seem like a key combo would be too confusing, and would definitely add some usefulness (and be a time-saver) for those of us who use both the notes and keywords fields both on reference entry and for later editing. And if it's restricted to a key combo, only those of us who find it useful will invoke it.

Also, I was still wondering about the possibility/feasibility of having some basic reference info available in the Keywords and Notes tabs when those are open.

Having a key combination isn't hard, but I'm wary of adding oddball shortcuts that no one is going to know about or care about but one person. Does anyone else want this?

As for the other, no, it's a pure field, no other text will appear there. If it did, it would be actually entered into the field.

I'm beginning to think that the correct behavior would be to disallow you from "scrolling" through references with the Keywords or Notes field active. It should probably return to the Main Tab automatically if you do that.

OK, I see that now. And now that I think about it, I hadn't really internalized your continual comments recently about how many different ways we can view Notes and Keywords (via Concise View, etc.), esp. in List View. That helps quite a bit, actually.

I think that having the key combo for toggling KW and Notes in the Main Tab (if you find that others need it, too, and agree to do it) plus the multiple ways to view those two fields would give me everything I need for effectively working with those fields quickly and easily.

Thanks for letting me hound you about this.....
