Custom Formats

I would appreciate any help on the following problem.

I installed Bookends a couple of days ago and started learning how to use it; at a certain point it became clear that I needed to customize the formats used (replacing English words like and etc. with its Portuguese correspondents).
This is what the Formats Manager 'New' option is supposed to do.
My problem is that I can't do it, because nothing happens when clicking on the 'New' button.
I asked Jon to help me and after a lot of email exchange ( I must thank him for being so supportive in dealing with a trial user) he suggested me to mannualy copy and place a format file in the library/application support/ bookends/custom formats folder.
I did so, but Bookends doesn't aknowledge the file.

So, it seems that the program can't acess the required folder to perform the operations involved in creating / reading custom formats.

I ran Tiger Cache Cleaner more than once to rebuild the disk permissions, I changed the permission settings in the Finder, I reinstalled and re-downloaded the program several times.

If anyone has experienced this sort of problem or has an idea about how to solve it, please let me know. I really like Bookends but must be sure that it can handle the required formats in my setup.

Have you tried if this works in a new user account? Sometimes opening a new user account and trying the action which failed in your normal one helps troubleshooting what may have gone wrong…

Thanks for answering. But I've tried it and it didn't work...

Jon just suggested me a way out: duplicate a format in the Finder and keep it in the Bookends/Format folder.
This solves my problem (I guess the only drawback is to remember to keep the formats aside when installing a new version of the program).
But if someone knows a direct solution for my problem, I'm still interested!

No special characters (I avoid to use them because I learned the hard way that they are problem makers):

/Applications/Bookends 10 Folder
/Users/ase/Library/Application Support/Bookends
