I'm having some serious problems with this.
It simply doesn't work, in one instance, and in another not correctly.
If I scan my document (100 odd pages) with the output in the same window, bookend crashes or sometimes the database just closes. If I scan it with the option to open a new window, it opens the window but then runs the CPU for minutes. When it eventually comes back, the output breaks my formatting.
Scan a Word 2008 document problems
I think I found out why Bookends is crashing on scans and other weird behaviour. Seems to be related to having '\\' in the file. The text in my document was copied from Latex and I hadn't changed it all. Removing the '\\' made it scan without taxing the CPU or crashing.Jon wrote:Why not create a small document and zip it and your database and send them to me so I can take a look.

However, the problem with it messing up the styles if 'create new document window' is still there and easily reproducible. It removed the 1.5 line spacing, the font size & the justification. Also messes up text in tables where it makes it 1.5 lines spacing when this is one place I want 1 lines!
That's good. But I wonder what the problem is with two backslashes -- unless they're inside citations, where the backslash is the "quote" mark? Can you reproduce this with a small file that you can send me?pds1602 wrote: I think I found out why Bookends is crashing on scans and other weird behaviour. That's Word, not Bookends, I'm afraid. Bookends doesn't touch the table info (except perhaps if there's a citation in the table, but it leave the styles alone). The one thought I have for you is an issue covered in the Bookends Read Me. After Bookends inserts a final citation the rest of the text (until a style change might occur) assumes that of the paragraph's style sheet. So make sure the style sheet for the tables is the same as the formatting you want (i.e. don't apply ad hoc formatting to the table). However, the problem with it messing up the styles if 'create new document window' is still there and easily reproducible. The two backslashes were in the quote marks as you said. I'm running out of options here. My document uses [] and {} so I'm using ~~. The ~ was used in my document for old latex formatted text, hence the problem. You may want to add a few more options here!Jon wrote:

I've sent you an email re. the formatting. IMO, bookends should preserve formatting when opening a new document. Otherwise this option is not much good as its a fair amount of work to reformat it if the document uses a lot of styles as mine does.
I've answered this off-forum, but for those following: Bookends honors Word styles and style sheets. So if your default style for Normal is double-spaced text, Bookends will use double-spaced text in a new Word window. You just have to make sure your default Normal style is what you want.
