Bookends won't do that. It will substitute "Ibid." for an exact match, and "Ibid. p. 34" (or whatever, if there is quoted text that differs between the citations). But it won't substitute "Ibid." for individual elements of a citation.

For me, this would be a great feature as well. In my field (biblical literature) this is proper. For example:

when browsing the forum, I found this problem that seems to be yet unresolved. In case it might be useful to some body, I will explain how I resolved it.
To have a book chapter fomatted like this:
Jakobson Roman, "On linguistics" in Id., Essays, London, 1966.
I created a new type of reference that I called Book Chapter in own Book and then edited the format of this type putting static text "Id." where the field for Editor (that is Book Author) has been put in the Book Chapter format.
I use it a lot, because making a complete bibliography of an author, I make a reference for every chapter of every book, because many chapters have been also published as Journal article. Then I can link the Chapter reference to the Journal article and also relate them in a complete bibliography.
Hope it can be useful to somebody.

talking about Latin abbreviations in the Humanities I think there's another little 'bug' in the formats manager concerning edited book and book chapters.
An example: I want to cite a paper from Jakobson book "Essays" pubblished in London, 1966.
The ideal format is: Jakobson Roman, "On linguistics" in Id., Essays, London, 1966.
What is possible to get from the formatting options provided is:
Jakobson Roman, "On linguistics" in Jakobson Roman, Essays, London, 1966.
The author is repeated even though it should be avoided by using the "Idem" (abbr. Id.)
What do you think? Am I missing something?
