problem with capitalisation and exclusion list

Post by proteus »

sorry if I open a new thread - here's another issue I have:
I can't make the Don't Change Case option in Preferences -> Scan&Bib work as I would like to. Specifically, words that have - in them (mostly transliterations from Persian or Arabic) are capitalised wrong. I have Title case turned on my format.
So for example, despite inserting
Marja-i
in the Don't Change Case list, it keeps being capitalised to
Marja-I
when I scan the bibliography in Mellel.
Any hints on how to fix this?
many thanks

I suspect the problem is that a hyphen is also a word break character, so Bookends capitalizes after the hyphen. So what you are doing now won't work.

thanks for the reply - so i suppose there is no way to avoid the capitalisation in this case...is there any way to tell Bookends to use Sentence case instead of Title case for any given bibliographic entry, or any other way of solving this issue?

Hi,

Not at the moment (you could leave a space between the words and Bookends will honor that, e.g. Marja i). I'll file away the request, though.

thanks for your note - it could be good if we could insert words like Marja-i enclosed by quotes or something in a future version of Bookends and have them avoid capitalisation like the other "standard" words...for the time being, i will just do a global replace in Mellel once the bibliographic scan is over, guess that's the least cumbersome way. Unfortunately my notation calls for keeping the - sign in transliterations...

Hm, I think I've managed to add this feature (allowing case preservation for hyphenated words) for the next update (or if you want to test it sooner, write to me and I'll send you a small update to try).
