Hi,
I created several databases before I read in the manual, "We suggest you use one database rather than several smaller databases…" (p. 14). I've been trying to figure out how to merge my three databases but haven't found the information in the manual. When I select File>Import References in my target (new) database, and then choose "from Bookends" in the resulting window, the databases from which I wish to import references are grayed out.
Is one to export all the references from each of the old databases as some sort of file and then import those files into the new database? And if so, will I lose the structure of my folders and static groups? I have not placed references in any documents yet so I don't care if any of the reference IDs change.
perplexed,

How to combine databases?
Re: How to combine databases?
Hi,
You merge databases in one of two ways:
1. Mark all refs, export as a "Bookends" file, then import that file into the master db
2. Select all refs and drag and drop from one db window to the other.
You can't transfer groups, just references. But the unique ids usually stay with the ref (unless there is a collision when you merge, which is rare).
