New MLA Style Guidelines (2008)

Post by JP Craig »

The Modern Language Association has come up with a new set of guidelines for formatting a bibliography. From what I see so far (dull reading) this primarily means adding "Print" to the end of print sources and more substantial changes to the format for online sources.

As far as I can tell, Bookends 10.2.1 doesn't include these updates to the MLA style. Is there an anticipated date for these to be included?

Hi,

I haven't seen these. Is there a particularly good online site to point to?

They don't put it online. If they did, they wouldn't be able to charge hundreds of faculty members $60 for the book and thousands of students $25 for the student book. It's a scam. I'm going to send them a nagging e-mail about posting the standards online, but I doubt it'll have any impact.

If you want to see if they're reasonable enough to provide you with a copy of the manual because of the work you do, this is probably the best contact info:

26 Broadway, 3rd floor, New York, NY 10004-1789
http://www.mla.org
Phone: 646 576-5000
Fax: 646 458-0030

I was hoping that they HAD provided you with a book. It seems like a standards-setting organization might want to do that.

Um. If I hear anything remotely useful, I'll get back to you at this thread.

Thanks for the info. I can probably get ahold of a copy. Do you (or anyone) have an MLA 2008 EndNote style by any chance? Or does your library? That's a fast way to get the relevant information...

Yep, I got my copy in the mail a couple of weeks ago. The relevant section of the book is a little over 80 pages. I have only broken the surface of it, as I've frantically trying to get a chapter in a book going to press this winter.

Oh, and my price information was the result of aggravation and poor memory: it's $32.50. Sorry for the exaggeration.

Ah, that's the manual itself. I was wondering if anyone had an updated style from EndNote they could send me...
