Citations from archives

Post by primrose »

I've just made the switch from Endnote to Bookends with Mellel as my WP half way through a book (possibly not a good idea!) and I'm having real problems as I use a lot of material from archives. I've tried creating my own format but if I use the Title field my formatting for everything else will be wrong and if I use the Journal field it doesn't show in the list so I have problems finding it in Bookends.
To give you a couple of examples: Girton College, GCPP Proctor 4/1/1
Or: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew: Kew Guild, 1 (9), 1901, p. 19. With this last example, I have a number of these, all with no author, no article title, just the archive and journal name but all with different years, volumes and pages. So another query - should I enter these details manually because it's so difficult in Bookends/Mellel to find things. Hope I'm explaining myself.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just create a new Type (i.e. Archive) for an existing format such as APA, then set it up as you like (you can put the source, such as Girton College, or Royal Botanic Gardens) in the title field, for example, which you can rename in preferences?

Hi Jon

I agree that is the most obvious thing to do but when I've done that the formatting I use for everything else puts the Title field into italics, so it'll come out like that as well which I don't want. If I put Girton College into the Author field it turns it into Girton, C. or similar.

Also am I right that 'Journal' isn't in the Lists drop down menu?

Thanks

HI,

You have to edit the primary order for that Type -- it's independent of any other Type, and will not affect Book, Book Chapter, etc.

If you end a name with a comma, Bookends won't try to parse it (e.g. Smith, EL,).

Yes, Journal is in the Term List pop-up menu.

If you're having problems with these issues, you should contact us directly for tech support.
