crashes

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Since updating to 10.4, Bookends has been crashing virtually every time I use it. Sometimes, I can scan (using Mellel) once, but to scan again produces the eterntal and infernal spinning beach ball. (I have the latest Leopard, Mellel and Bookends).
