request: edited book and book chapter view
It would be really helpful to have the option to view my list of references with book chapters showing as kind of sub-directories of their respective books. This way I can have any book chapters I have cited right underneath the book that they are in. This would be especially helpful for edited books, as the authors of the book and chapter are different and would be in different spots on the list.

I would like to have a more general "find related" feature which would highlight related items by the same authors, with the similar sets of keywords, in the same volume or series, etc. generally alerting you to related resources in the same way that you find books grouped together in the library or bookstore.
Re: request: edited book and book chapter view
I know this is old but I wanted to add a voice for this too.
It would be great also if the books refs. received similar treatment as that in email softwares. That is a 'threaded' view. Similar to email apps, you can have one topic (titles of book or reference number here) with many authors on that thread.
I doubt this is coming soon but maybe for BookEnds 11.0

Re: request: edited book and book chapter view
Wouldn't that be something like a group?
Hm, but rereading this thread does give me an idea for nice little feature addition...
FWIW, I have already implemented a significant new feature in 10.4.1 that will provide a way to deal with related references that I think you'll find interesting (it's not a threaded view, though).

Re: request: edited book and book chapter view
Hi Jon,
that are great news. Will there also be a possibilty to deal with edited books and book chapters in bibliographies? That would be very useful.
An example:
April, B.: just a chapter. In: Zimmermann 1987, pp. 231–253.
Helmer, U.: another chapter. In: Zimmermann 1987, pp. 2–45.
Zimmermann, J.: I wrote a Book. London 1987.

Hi Reiner,
Bookends has always been able to output a bibliography like that. So you must means something more subtle.

Re: request: edited book and book chapter view
I'm guessing that Reiner means producing a bibliography like that automatically, without any need to put a reference to the edited book in the document to be scanned. What I mean is, if the document contains references to more than x papers in one edited book (where x might be 1, 2 or 3, say), truncate the information about the book in the bibliography entries for the book chapters to [author, date], and put the edited book itself in the bibliography too.
We discussed this in this forum a few years ago. It's the only thing that I often wish Bookends could do, given that Bookends does just about everything else it could!

Sorry that I was not clear. But what nicka writes here is exactly what I mean.nicka wrote:I'm guessing that Reiner means producing a bibliography like that automatically, without any need to put a reference to the edited book in the document to be scanned. Re: request: edited book and book chapter view
Such a feature would be great.
And I was thinking of a related feature (which was part of the Papyrus reference manager of Dave Goldman). Namely links between references which can be named, for example cited in and cited by, or reviewed in and reviewed by.
Sometimes it is useful to know in which reference you found a quotation, or in which reviews a book is reviewed.

Then you should be pleased with 10.4.1.
