Renaming attachments

Post by kga1978 »

Hi,

Glad to see all the new improvements in 10.4.1!! I was exited to see the ability to rename already attached attachments, BUT I was wondering whether it wouldn't be possible to improve on this feature:

1. The ability to rename the attachment according to the current 'Rename attachments' settings in the 'Refs' pane? (e.g. 'MLA').
2. If 1. is incorporated, the ability to select multiple references and rename attachments in bulk?

I have always been looking for this feature, as I discovered Bookends too late for my ever growing pdf library - all the old articles are labeled insufficiently.

Thanks a bunch,
K

Hi,

You can rename the attachments any way you like (including MLA, if that's your fancy) by setting that in Bookends preferences.

As for batch renaming, there is an underlying problematic issue -- if you have more than one database, you will break the attachment links in those that aren't open when you globally rename attachments.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't specific enough - I meant changing the attachment name via the new inspector - if I click to 'Rename Attachment...' it only allows me to type in text. If there was a checkbox here saying 'rename according to prefs' or something similar, then that would be great.

Ah yes, I see. I'll think about that. Perhaps the default text offered in the dialog box could be automatically generated according to the settings in preferences?
