I have to agree that getting the user guide manually somehow does not seem to be the best solution. I guess I would not mind if it would be bundled with the app with every new version…

Same here; it's only 8.8 MB, not much compared to BE itself

Including it in the download is easy. Bookends would have to move it to the ~/Documents/Bookends folder (which is its preferred location).

I should have been clearer in my last post.
If you upgrade with Sparkle, you'll always have the latest User Guide (in Documents/Bookends). If you download manually, you have to do it yourself.
Would anyone have an objection if the User Guide was included in the manually download and left in the Bookends 10 folder? Or would you prefer that it be moved to Documents/Bookends?

If it needs to be in the Documents/Bookends folder to be available from the Help menu, then I would prefer it if it could be moved there automatically. If not I don't care where it is located.
(at least if this does not cause problems with different User Guide versions in different locations when people do sometimes update through Sparkle and sometimes by downloading manually…)

Remember that Sparkle is discontinued for now. As of 10.6 the notification of a new update will take you to the Bookends download page. But I suppose it should be moved to Documents to avoid confusion with where previous versions put it.

Both? I mean, if you download it, it should be available from the Help menu, which it will not, if not placed in the right folder. Hope that that made sense?

Already done for the next update. The User Guide will be included in the manual download, and will be moved to the Documents folder (and an old User Guide found there will be moved to the Trash).
(The issue really is that Bookends allows the User Guide to be in either location, but it looks in the Documents folder first when you use Help. This is for historical reasons. I probably should restrict it to one location at some point in the future -- with this new behavior, I'm leaning toward the Documents folder).
