References in seperate () - how to avoid?

Post by dspedersen »

Hi,

I have found the format of J. Neuroscience to be just perfect for my project but upon scanning a Word doc I get multiple references inserted as (ref) (ref) (ref), instead of (ref; ref; ref).

What am I doing wrong here or is it a limitation within that particular format?

Thx in advance,
Dan

Bookends treats independent pair of curly brackets as a separate citation. To cite multiple references in a group, use the citation separator, usually a semicolon:

{Smith, 2005, title; Jones, 2006, title}

Ahh, I see!

Thanks a lot, Jon (also for an ultra-fast reply on that).

But, this means that I'll have to edit the references (before doing the scan) once obtained in Word?

You mean when inserting? Not necessariy. If you select multiple references from the List View and do an insert, Bookends puts in the semicolon for you. And if you hold the Shift key down for individual citaitons, Bookends will leave off the curly brackets (so you need to enter the semicolon and the closing curly bracket yourself).

Whoa! Damn nice feature! Sorry for asking those dumb Qs, Jon, but I find the tutorial (pdf) horrible to use. I have a feeling that your answers are in there somewhere... :oops:

Thanks a lot!
