Hi,

I got a new intel imac at work last week and copied everything over with the system assistent. Today, I wanted to add a reference to my databse. It started up fine and opened the database, but when I wanted to enter a new reference it suddenly quit with a "Database engine error: -5000".

Now it can't even open up my databse.

I already did the follwing:
Tried to verify the database -> no success. (Database engine error: -5000)
Tried to reindex the database -> no success. (Database engine error: -5000)
Tried to repair the database -> no success. (Nil object error)
Tried to rebuild the database -> no succes. (Database engine error: -5000)

Then I downloaded Bookends again and did the same and was not succefull either.

This is happening with Bookends 9.0.7, btw.

It's likely that the database is not retrievable and you'll have to resort to a backup. You can zip and send me the database, but there is probably nothing that I can do with it, either.

It's there again. Let me tell you what I did:
I copied the database to my desktop (it was located on a server share) to send it to you in an e-mail.
Opening it from the desktop works without problems. Opening from the (afp) share gives me the same error as before.

This seems to be a Bookends' bug, doesn't it?

Could it be that the server being an PPC Mac and my iMac being an Intel Mac causing compatibility problems (although I think this is rather unlikely)

No, this is not a Bookends bug. Here's what the error means:

-5000 accessDenied Incorrect access for this file/folder

It's a permissions problem.

Okay, just in case you are interested in my investigation in this case. :-)
I am the owner of the file and directory and permissions are 750. This shouldn' be a problem though.

The interesting thing is: I explained to you that Bookends first produced this error when I was trying to insert a new reference. I guess some process of Bookends still uses the database in the memory, as I cannot delete it from the derver, either, because "it is used" by some other process.

Nevertheless. Thanks a lot for your quick reply.

The error is generated by Mac OS X, not Bookends. So apparently the OS thinks it's a problem. I wonder if the database is being accessed by another copy of Bookends? In any case, if you were using Bookends on the server successfully before, something obviously has changed.
