Hello everyone...


I've been playing with Bookends for the past months, and yesterday I finally bought it... Amazing software...

However, I'm experiencing a problem with the removal of duplicates... It's something I have not perceived during the trial, probably due to the few entries I had then...

Currently, my database has 4000 references, and when I try to remove duplicates, Bookends says there are 43 duplicates... However, when I "Preview and Verify" the duplicates, I find absolutely NO exact dupe... I already tried to check/uncheck the options but results tend to get worse...

Am I doing something wrong or is this something that I should get used to???

Thanks for the kind words about Bookends.

The problem you have encountered only occurs on Intel Macs -- it's an "endian" issues that affects the algorithm we use to detect duplicates. It wasn't caught earlier because the algorithm still works, kind of, but with lots of references some mistaken identifications are made.

The upshot is, it's fixed in the next update. So use the "manual verification" of duplicates to make sure what Bookends identifies really is a duplicate until the update is available.

Oh... Very quick response... I guess the rumors were true!!!

It's great to know that the fix is coming soon...

I own both a MacPro and a PowerBook, but I've installed Bookends only in the MacPro... I guess until the fix is released, I will do all the duplicate removal routine in the PowerBook...

Oh... By the way... Going off-topic here, but are there any other issues with Intel Macs that I should know or worry about???

As always, there are a number of bug fixes that will be included in the next update. One other that is Intel-specific is the inability to scan NWE files where temporary citations are delimited by curly brackets. There may be a few others.
