Synchronizing several machines

I'm starting a new topic because my bump on an old thread seems to have been ignored.

Essentially, I am looking for advice on how to maintain a synchronized set of Bookends files -- databases and attachments -- on three different machines. I have an iMac at work, an iMac at home, and an iBook that I use when I am travelling. I don't always have reliable internet access, but I could use backup software, I suppose to a .Mac account (or a different server) and then sync each machine from that.

Is anyone else trying to do this? Do you have any advice to offer?

I have successfully used Synk for that purpose for more than a year. It keeps the database files in sync by copying the whole database and it can archive older version if you want.

Of course, there are lots of other synchronization programs. I would recommend doing a search for sync or synchronization on macupdate.com, checking out the reviews and then trying out which solution suits your needs and purse best.

Since Bookends files do not differ from other files on OS X, you can use any file synchronization tool that is availableâ€¦

Thanks. You encouraged me to try this (with You Synchronize and .Mac) and it all worked just fine.

At first I thought that it had failed to pick up the attachments, but I then discovered that the attachments were not set to show in the list view. Once I changed that everything seems fine.

Now to discover whether this will work in real life!

Hello,

I use Chronosync two synchronize databases and attachments between in iMac and iBook. Works perfectly: the db is of course replaced each time and the attachments folder updated with new items. Only thing to keep in mind (sorry for stating the obvious): don't work on a BE database simultaneously at two machines.
