Hello,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I searched and didn't find anything, so here it goes.

I have access to the internet through the Uni's network, both in my room with an ethernet connection and at Uni itself with a wireless connection. Both connections use a PAC file. Now when I try to use Internet Search in Bookends, to find a book in amazon for example, it doesn't work.

Is there a way around this?

Hi,

In Preferences, you can set the proxy server and proxy port manually, which may do the trick. If you need authentification too (name and password) you'll need to use Bookends 9.2. (to be released soon).

Thanks for the quick reply. The problem is due to the fact that the proxy is not in the normal form, i.e. 172.34.345.1 with a port 8080 or something like this but the proxy is what is called a PAC file (don't ask me what this PAC thing is I'm just following the instructions on the Uni's webpage), and has no port. Instead it has this form http://www.zz.ac.uk/uniresnet.pac not the exact form just and example. I've tried using it without ticking the Proxy info box in Preferences but it just keeps Awaiting a reply! And with the box ticked I get an unable to connect error.

I get a "can't find server" with that URL.

Please contact your IT people. I think there should be a direct means for accessing your proxy, too.

Well that's a fake url so its normal to get an error message. I'll email you the real one as well as the Uni's page. Also, I'll try to talk to them tomorrow.
