Possible Windows Version

Hi Jon,

This has probably been asked before but had you thought of doing a Windows version? Two reasons - one, Valentina is cross platform, and two, the price Adept charge in the UK for Endnote is prohibitive for all save the most well endowed institutions. With such an excellent product you would clean up.

I've used it since it came on a single floppy - Bookends plus as it then was - and never felt the need to change. Unfortunately most universities in the UK are Windows based.

cheers,

Tacitus

Hi Tacitus,

There will probably never be a Windows version of Bookends. There are several good reasons for this, but the most important is that I simply have no desire to work with Windows.

Sounds as good a reason as any :-)

Jon, what do you mean? You don't think RealBasic is a good development platform? Then, you could develop for Windows, Mac, and even Linux!

(Tongue firmly in cheek! :))

I'm not jon but I use the same tools so I can add some comments about this. RB and Valentina is cross-plattform but that's only a start. To be able to write a windows programs there are a lot of things that needs to be handled, some are "trivial" like shortcuts, organisation of menus, etc. Other are more structurual like sheet windows, then there are things that doesn't exist on Windows but on Mac OS (or the other way around). Now add the support issues for another platform, other bibprograms on Windows ...

So I can understand jons decision to keep Bookends Mac only :!:

Also...when Mac users overthrow the Windows world, Bookends will still be around...no?
