I can't seem to change the formatting of the actual footnoting out of the odd {} bracket format. Is there an obvious way I am missing to get it to change the footnoting format to Turabian or whatever?

If you scan the document, Bookends will replace the {} with the footnote.

Parenthetically, you can use Copy Formatted (or Option-Drag) to place the final formatted footnote in the Word document if you want (but of course you can't scan/rescan that).
