An undoubtedly small but rather nasty problem: as soon as I try to backup a database (working with 9.2), the spinning wheel appears and the application refuses to respond. How could this be solved?

How big is your database? Before the backup Bookends does a Verify -- if the db is large this make take some time. When it's done the backup should proceed.

Don't forget to increase your database cache, too, if your database is large (by that I mean over 4-5K references).

If the backup never does occur, try rebuilding your database first.
