importing from Pubmed

All of a sudden I can now longer drop the url into Bookends and have the reference imported. If I go to the Medline view in Pubmed the text is ghosted and will not copy. I have to send it to text before it can be copied and imported to Bookends. Has Pubmed changed their format? Will bookends be compatible or is something else going on?
Thanks Bob

There was a silent update ~3 weeks ago that should have fixed the problem. I suggest you re-download BE and try again - it solved my problem with pubmed at least.
Cheers,

I downloaded the "silent" upgrade but to no avail. If you look at a Pubmed reference in medline format, it is gray not black and is not even copyable to the clipboard and not importable to BE by this method either. Only after being sent to text does it become black and importable.

Hi,
I don't see that. What browser are you using (I'm using Safari).
That are *many* ways to import PubMed references into Bookends. In order of what I consider best to worst:
1. Bookends Internet Search.
2. Browser PubMed -> drag and drop link.
3. Browser PubMed -> Medline -> Send to Text -> Copy -> Import from clipboard.
4. Browser PubMed -> Medline -> Send to File -> drag and drop import into Bookeds.
There may be others I've forgotten, but these all work for me now.

Hi Jon thanks for the quick response. I am using Safari, but have also tried Firefox. I like to do an occasional drop and drag because the search does not always find everything. I have used up the available search terms options.

Hi,
Bookends Internet Search should find the same references as the browser if the terms are used the same way (it's all the same search in the end).
I don't know what you are seeing. If you still can't get it to work, this should move to technical support, and you can send me a screen snapshot that shows the problem.

It is the same search but there are only six qualifiers in the search fields and I periodically need more. I will send you the snapshots.

No joy here either

Dragging and dropping from Pubmed doesn't work here either, using Safari 3, Firefox 2 and Bookends 9.2.2. It was a great feature.

Hi NickB,
I emailed the pubmed help desk to let them know of the problem they are creating. Maybe if enough of us write they will respond.

Hi,
Make sure you are using the latest build of 9.2.2. PubMed has undergone a lot of changes recently that broke things. Most have been dealt with, including the drag and drop import.
I just tried this and it worked with Safari 2 (don't have 3 installed here):
1. Search for CD45.
2. Drag and drop the first hit (today it is Reece and Davidson) to the Bookends List View window -> imported.
or
2. click on the link to Reece and Davidson.
3. drag and drop the proxy icon (the DNA double helix) to the Bookends List View -> imported.
Try these.

I have just downloaded the 'silent update' 9.2.2 and drag and drop importing of the proxy icon works with Safari 3.

I am confused. I downloaded the latest version, am using Safari 3.0 beta on a new black notebook with 2 gigs of ram, and repeated the exact search that Jon did. Neither drop and drag approach worked. If I display medline format, copy the ref, and import it, BE says it imports, but actually only creates a blank reference containing only the url.

I don't know why it's not working for you since it works here. As for copying, you must send it to text first and then copy. At least that works for me as well.

sending medline to text works fine. I wonder why the drop and drag works for some and not others? Thanks for your efforts.

Hi I am happy to say that drop and drag does now, work with Firefox, just not Safari 3 beta.
