View > Formatted not remembered?

If I choose View > Formatted I get the correct pane. Upon restart, however, I see the attachment pane. It seems BE 10 remembers the wrong setting here?

Please try this on a fresh database and see if it remembers.

Ok, it remembers on a fresh database.
With my old db i still have this issue (on both MacBook and iMac). I tried deleting preferences but that does not help.
No idea if it could make a difference but: my attachments are not in the default folder that BE creates but a different one.

Try rebuilding your old database *without* keeping user info.

This works. But can you say how serious this issue is? Can I leave it for the moment or is the db slowly corrupting? This would be the second time in 2 months I have to reconstruct all folders and groups of my db which takes several hours...

I just found out that a one-week old backup is ok (after conversion from 9 to 10). So something must have happened in the last week with my already converted db that caused this issue.

Jon, I can send both versions if you want to check things.

Hi,

I don't know what happened. But it's rarely helpful to send me a problematic database. What *is* helpful is if you can take an apparently good database, do something with it, and then end up with a damaged database. If these steps can be reproduced then we can determine why it happend. If it's not reproducible then it's almost impossible to figure out.

That makes sense yes. In this case i only have the before and after. Anyway, problem solved now and hope i do not encounter it again :)

One small thing: in order to update the backup with the latest additions I used the problematic db to do an export of the latest refs (thanks a lot for adding the possibility to sort on added date!). I could not import the resulting Bookends Export file, the BE10 export file that is (it remained grey in the selection window). No problems with the BE 9 export though.

I have just been able to reproduce something similar:
- make new db
- do online search for some random refs (in this case on author "Lustiger" in LoC) and import the found items
- hit apple-control-E and attachment pane appears
- close db
- restart db and instead of attachment pane the formatted pane shows

I can send the db but this worked in several cases so you can probably reproduce yourself.

Hope this helps,
Gerben

Thanks for letting me know. You can import the file by drag and drop, but not via a get file dialog. I'll fix that for the next update.

As for remembering the attachment pane, download Bookends again and see if it works for you.

Hi,

I tried the exact steps you listed above and Bookends remembered to show the attachment pane when the db was reopened.

Hi Jon,

Hmm, i can still reproduce this on both my machines when making a new db. Removing the preferences files on the MacBook has no effect and gives the same result. If you would like me to send you a db let me know.
