Java, Freemind and Bookends - pasting links into maps

I use the excellent Freemind mind mapping program to brainstorm, and would like to be able to link to Bookends from branches of my map.
Freemind is a Java app.
I copy the reference's hypertext link and paste it into Freemind (Hyperlink|Text field). When I click on the link I get
Clearly Java doesn't know about the protocol bookends://. Does any clever person know how to teach it?
