I'm not sure what applications you are referring to. Bookends uses the Mac OS X standard Command-` for that (like the Finder, Safari, etc).

Jon, I think I also contacted you because of this - Cmd+< is the window switching shortcut on the German keyboard. However, this does not work in Bookends - in contrast to most other apps, which accept this shortcut.

The shortcut is Command tilde on my keyboard -- and I think most English-language keyboards. It seems to work fine in Bookends, swapping between reference, list and internet search windows as expected.

Is that a German keyboard? On my (US) keyboard the tilde (~) is on the same key as the ` (the tilde is accessed with the Shift key).

No, a UK keyboard. I was only responding to the original post, but got interrupted and by the time I posted a lot of water had passed under the bridge...

On my German keyboard none of the methods work.

Btw: The key for ` on the English keyboard is the same key as < on the German keyboard layout.

Same situation with a Portuguese keyboard as Reiner describes for the German keyboard. Although < is the same key as ` in US keyboards, and Ctr_< shifts between windows in most apps, Bookends fails to do the trick.

I am on a German keyboard too, and it works fine here using <,command. I remember some time ago, Bookends had a menu command associated with this shortcut, but Jon changed it to something else. So I assume it can't be Bookends.

However, I experienced a similar problem with Word as well as Bookends two years ago. And it turned out one that of the services I had installed at this time used <, command, too. And this interfered with the system's shortcut to toggle windows. But the problem was present in Word an Bookends only. In other (Cocoa) applications switching between windows worked fine. So, I suggest you check your services. There ist a tool called Service Scrubber with which you can modify the shortcuts used by services, in case you find the culprit an wish to change the shortcut.

As a note on the side: Even in Apple's own iWork 08 package the German shortcut <,command doesn't work by default. I had to tweak the shortcuts of Pages in order to make it behave "normally".

thank you for this hint. Though I hadn't had any service attached to command-< I had one attached to command-> and after deleting this shortcut with ServiceScrubber command-< also works in Bookends.

Now it works. I'm happy. But I didn't understand this behaviour.
1. I find it illogical that deleting command-> enables command-< in Bookends.
2. I find it illogical that all other applications I tested just worked fine with command-< before doing the trick with ServiceScrubber.

So maybe there also is a possibility to enable this shortcut "out of the box" on Jon's side? But I don't know. I'm just wondering about this.
