Word 2008

Hey Jon,

You may or may not be able to answer this (and either is fine and/or understandable). I'm looking to upgrade Bookends, and I wonder about how long it will take to support Word 2008 (as Word 2004 is almost unusable to me) after it is released or if it will at all, considering there's no VB in W08.

What does Office's move from VB mean to developers (like you guys and Thomson) whose software depends on it?

I use Nisus Writer Pro as well, but to be honest, I really do need to use Word, and would hate to be stuck with Word 2004 running in Rosetta.

Have a good thanksgiving,

Scott

Hi Scott, happy Thanksgiving to you, too (and everyone in the US and abroad who celebrates it).

The removal of VBA will have a much more profound affect on EN than on Bookends, although I have no doubt that ISI will be able to modify their code to accommodate it. For Bookends it should be relatively easy because the method Bookends employs already uses AppleEvents. Having said that, I haven't seen a build of Word 2008 so I can't say exactly how difficult it will be to replace the existing add-in and template. I'm hopeful, though, that we will be able to update Bookends for it rather quickly.

Did you notice that Office 2008 will have its own bibliography tool? I hope they don't break compatibility with others to promote their stuff.

Hi,

I really don't see how they can disable any interactions with reference management software since we all use underlying Word technology that's used for many other things. But we should know a lot more in January.

Any update on this? There are several people posting on macintouch today about EN problems with Word 2008 wanting to know if any other software gets along nicely.

Now that it is release, anyone know if Bookends plays nicely with Word 2008?

I hope to release a Word 2008-compatible version of Bookends soon (probably early next week).
