untold frustration like never before!

I'm having continual, never-ending, unacceptable problems with ambiguous citations.

In Bookends, I selected: Preferences, Scan&Bib, Cite by, Turabian

In Mellel from the edit menu, I then ran Bibliography, Verify Citations.

Even though there are no ambiguous citations in the document -- each has a unique Turabian entry -- Bookends goes spastic and looses it. It finds countless ambiguous citations, even in cases where there is only ONE entry for a single author.

What gives!!!!!!!! I'm loosing my mind and need some help, please please. How do I make Bookends work?

Hi,

There's not enough specific information here, and this is certainly an issue for tech support, but if I had to guess I'd say that you might have inadvertently selected comma (,) as your citation separator in preferences (it's usually the semicolon). If you did, each element in a normal citation will be seen as a separate citation in a group). If this isn't the problem, please contact me directly (support@sonnysoftware.com) for further help.

I have tried citing by format style and really hoped it would work as it would provide very close to WYSIWYG functionality with Mellel. Alas, I had the same issue as you. From my usage, it seems to me that the best way to use BE is sticking with the author, date, uniqu ID type of citation, as the unique ID element removes any ambiguity for BE.

Danny, you can create a citation format you like, and as long as you include a unique id it will override the text (at least with Mellel).

The ability of Bookends to use arbitrary text to cite references is a feature (i.e. you can cite while writing without Bookends even available), but of course then it's up to you to ensure unambiguous citations.

Of course, proofreading scans can help even if you create ambiguous citation.
