Jon, I was wondering if BE could utilize ISBNdb's api service to automatically lookup and fill in missing ISBN's in a database.
i'd love something similar for call numbers too, but don't know of a similar online service.
But, I'd like to see something similar for DOI's, and crossref does have an API service for looking up DOI's.
find and fill isbn's (and other stuff too)

The CrossRef OpenURL resolver does now allow to fetch all basic metadata (i.e. those that are usually required to cite a journal article) including the DOI. This means that you can pass some bibliographic metadata (in form of an OpenURL) to the CrossRef resolver and retrieve all metadata for a matching record.Jon wrote:As for doi's, there is a "look up reference by doi" (that is if you have the doi). I imagine you're asking for the other direction.

ya, I'd love to have something like a "fetch in missing DOI's" menu item, ditto for ISBN's and LOC numbers.Jon wrote:Hi,
I don't know anything about that service, I'd have to look into it.
