Hello,
I would like to put my own parenthesis around the in-text citations when using, for example, the APA 5th edition format style. I couldn't figure out how to generally turn off the brackets around the formatted quotations, without having to turn this off in each and every individual quote.
So instead of "(See (Miller, 1986), (Schulz, 1954))", I want "(See Miller, 1986; Schulz, 1954)".
Where is the place to change this behavior in a style or in the preferences?
Thank you,
Christian

This is from the User Guide:
Excluding enclosing punctuation in a final citation
There are times when you may want to exclude enclosing punctuation for individual
citations (for example, when a citation is placed in a footnote rather than the body of the
text). You can tell Bookends to do this by inserting an asterisk immediately after the
opening delimiter of the in-text citation. For example,
{*Reginald, Polygons, 82, 1996}
might appear after a scan as
Reginald, J. (1996). Why I love polygons, 10:82.

I just saw that Jon gave an answer too (and quicker, as usual). In case his answer is not addressing your issue exactly, I offer another twist:
you can change this behavior globally in the format: go to
Biblio > Formats Manager…
in the formats manager select the style you are using (i.e. APA 5th edition), then go to the second tab and in the lower part of the window you can select the option “Nothingâ€

Hello,
thank you both for your quick replies!!
Ozean has led me to the solution: On my computer, when opening up the Formats Manager, the settings that he referred to were hidden because the window was too small. Since there were no scroll bars, I had no indication that there were more settings further down the page. When I enlarged the window, I discovered them - the "Enclose citations with" option is exactly what I was looking for!
Thanks again,
Christian

Ah, I had understood that you wanted to turn off the enclosing citation on an ad hoc basis. ozean's solution is of course the better one if you want to exclude closing parentheses globally.

I do this like this: {\See \Miller, 1986;Schulz, 1954}cboulanger wrote:Hello,
