get PDF from pubmed

Would it be possible to have the choice of renaming the pdf file when using the "get pdf from pubmed" function ?
This possibility is offered when attaching a file loacted on a local volume to a reference, which is very useful when you keep the attached files with a certain logic in their names (example: unique ID). Adding the same thing when automatically grabbing the file from pubmed would be great since changing the file name afterwards is rather tedious.

Hi,
Bookends will rename the pdf according to the method you have chosen (in preferences). That would be either author-date (and Bookends will add the PMID), or any format you design (note these should not be intended for bibliographies, but for naming purposes, and so could include the unique ID, for example).

I understand that I can create a format that would be the unique ID and choose it in the preferences for renaming pdf... but I have no idea how to do this in the format manager. sorry for being so ignorant. could you help ?

Sure, here's an example. In the format manager click on an existing format (say, J Immunol), click the Add button, and give it a new name (e.g. Name attachments). In the primary order field enter
a d @
Set the authors to Surname only, and in the second tab tell Bookends to output " et al." when there is more than one authors (place it after the first author). Then tell Bookends to output the year only.
What you should end up with is a name consisting of the first author (plus et al. if there is more than one), the year, and the unique id.
In Bookends preferences set the automatic naming option to use this format.
