Word 2008 Applescript keyboard shortcuts

Hello Bookends world,
I have recently switched from endnote to Bookends and (mostly) love it. One thing that I really would like to have is a way to automate the common applescript commands in Word 2008 (such as Insert Citation) using keyboard short cuts. This would save a huge amount of mousing when adding lots of references to a document. I found an interesting article at MacWorld about how to link applescript events to keyboard shortcuts (http://www.macworld.com/article/133027/ ... html?t=104), but I can't seem to make it work properly. I can get command-shift-R to link to and run Insert Citation using either of the two methods described in the article, but when I use the shortcut, the citation in Word lacks the { } needed to identify it as a citation. When I use the applescript command the old way (via mouse), it works perfectly.
Any help sorting this out would be appreciated.
cheers
jim
PS. I just noticed that Jon responded to a related question in the previous post with a link to similar method. Just tried it and got the same results: no { } around citation in Word.
