capitalization of "the"

I've searched on capitalization, and haven't found a fix.
If I have a title of a book that requires capitalizing, the title case messes this up. For example, a book by Lerner, Laurence, has its title formatted as: Thomas Hardy’s the Mayor of Casterbridge: Tragedy Or Social History?
But it should be The Mayor of Casterbridge, as it's part of the proper title. I know I could turn the title case off, yet the title case is helpful for the times you don't want "the" capitalized.
Any help appreciated--this is a great, great piece of software, whose usefulness I continue to discover.
