I just upgraded to the new Bookends 10.3.2. But it seems to have introduced 2 glitches:
1. Whenever I open a Bookends database I only see the pane for one entry. I don't, as before, see the list of all references. It's fairly easily corrected, but it's surprising behavior. And I need to manually ask for the complete list view each time. (Okay, maybe it's not a glitch, but something has changed.)
2. Smart groups seemed to be changed slightly. I had a bunch of smart groups that had 2 criteria combined with the OR operator. In all my smart groups the AND operator has been inserted. At first I just thought all the refs were lost! But with some poking around I found that every time I used an OR it had magically become an AND. Unlike glitch 1, once I fixed this is stayed. But it was a surprise at first.
Both of these could be user error, but I'm not doing anything different than before in Bookends so that's why my suspicion is there's some sort of glitch going on.

Re: smart groups glitch
Hi,
I can't explain #1 if you mean only the first reference of "All" is showing. That shouldn't be. Did you rebuild your database?
For #2, it's possible that Bookends isn't converting your old smart search format to the new one correctly (it's a bit complicated). But as you saw, correcting and saving it will fix that.
I hope you have a backup that shows the behavior in #2 so you can send it to me (zipped) and I can fix it...

Re: smart groups glitch
Jon,
#2 is the easy fix. #1 is bewildering. And if I rebuild the database I lose all my smart groups! Now that's a lot of extra work.
Actually everything was working fine in the earlier version. Is it possible to download the next to last version somewhere?
I'll try sending you the zipped database via email.

Re: smart groups glitch
Jon,
Okay, I found the earlier version on an external hard drive and I'll use that for awhile.
Actually one problem was solved in the Preferences under Default View. It got changed to Reference from List. Now there's a 1% chance I did this, but since I was using Bookends just the day before with no problems (and had no reason to visit Preferences) I'm guessing it wasn't user error (though possible). As a best guess something in the new version switched the default view. Easy to fix once I figured out what was going on.
However, even with the 10.3.1 version if I rebuild a database I lose all my smart groups. I guess that's typical behavior. It's unfortunate because I use several smart groups. At any rate it looks like I have both problems fixed. I'll just be super cautious and keep with 10.3.1 for a bit longer as it was working just fine for me anyways.

Hi,
Don't do a total Rebuild -- Rebuild (Keep User Settings). That preserves groups.
