In your experience, what is the most convenient way to import data from File Maker 7 ? Are there any ready-made filters for that ?

i've got a 'home built' bibliog. database on FM7 as well. Well over 1000 refs on it - which i would dearly love to import to Bookends.

i have been playing around with using BibTex format to try and do this, with Excel as an intermediate step to edit with - so far without much success.

some solution would be much appreciated - i think the key issue is creating a tagged output from FM7.

BibTeX is tough (many picky rules). I think you might have more luck with something simple, like RIS.
