Hi,

I have used Bookends with great pleasure for two years now, when I saw the light and went away from Endnote. My only remaining headache from the switch is that I have older references in my library that were either manually inserted in Endnote long time ago or were automatically inserted before doi:s or PubMed IDs were available. Is there any way I can autofill these references = have Bookends search PubMed for entries with the information I have and autofill doi and PubMed ID so that I can automatically import pdfs etc?

You can try the OpenURL search to locate references on PubMed and import then again from there, with all the associated info you want (if you import again, do a Remove Duplicates afterward).

And there is even a way to do this with the formatted reference:

One strategy might be to select the reference you want dois for, send them to the bib window (use Bibliography Formatter) formatted in, say, Vancouver, and copy and submit them in batch to the crossref.org batch lookup server at the URL above.

This should get you the dois, if they exist, of these references.

The autobatch search will be very helpful, even though it will take a little cut and paste to get all the numbers in the right place.
