Bookends doesn't implement settings/format changes I make

Hi,

several times, it has happened to me now that when I fiddled around with custom formats and/or general settings in order to fine-tune the appearance of my final documents, Bookends did not start using the changes I specified (usually, I don't notice this right away and think I am doing something wrong). Over the last few days, this was particularly aggravating, since I am finalizing the formatting of my dissertation. When I finally decided to post a plea for help this morning (still thinking that my format specifications are wrong), all of a sudden Bookends started actually taking note of the changes I have been making yesterday and the day before.
Has someone else had similar problems? Do I have to quit and reopen Bookends, or close and reopen my database, so that the software recognizes what I am doing? Is there a kind of 'cache' that needs to be emptied in order for changes to take effect?
For now, I have solved my issues, but this remains a problem.
(I am working w/ an up-to-date Mellel and Bookends 10.5.3.)

Thanks,
Martin

I just noticed that scanning a document seems to yield DIFFERENT results based on whether I get Bookends to create a bibliography after scanning! This seems very odd, since the bibliography (and its format) should have nothing at all to do with the format of in-text citations!

Hi,

Changes in formats take immediately -- there is no need to even close the format window to see them. When you are using a format with a custom citation format, take care to select the *main* format when doing the scan. When you edit a format, it is made the default for the next scan. If you're not paying attention when you scan, the custom format will therefore be chosen. In the case of Mellel this is less of an issue, because Bookends/Mellel default to the format used in the last scan. Nonetheless, when this happens, I'd unscan and then do a new scan (at the beginning of which you'll be allowed to select the format). If that's not the problem, you should contact tech support directly for help (support@sonnysoftware.com).
