Two Questions on Formats

Hello everyone.

Two questions on things I'm having difficulty with in my custom formats.

1. How do I get the content of the Author field, say, to output as is? Say I want "BBC News" (without quotes), which is in the author field, to output as is, not as "News, BBC". Obviously I can make it output that way for every reference that uses that format type, but I just want it to output for that particular reference.

2. I'm having trouble with the Date field in a custom Newspaper type I'm using. Instead of the full content of the date field ("1 September 2009") being outputted, I'm just getting "2009", when using "d" in my format (no quotes, again). Any ideas?

Thanks very much.

First, for corporate names, end with a comma

BBC News,

Second, for a Newspaper Type (assuming you're using a format with such a Type), there is a separate entry for Year, Month and Day. If you're having problems with that, you should contact tech support directly.

Hi Jon,

Many thanks for the quick reply.

Excellent solution to Q1. Thanks.

Re the date format. First, I can't see an option from the edit reference window (incl. the drawer) to enter day/month/year in three fields. All I see is date (and Access Date, which I set up in u3). Second, and following on, is there a way I can just use the Date field as I would for a book? I don't think I ever need to split the date and format it more granularly than "1 September 2009". I'll just remember to enter it that way.

Hi,

In the Newspaper Type (as we ship it), User3 is Mon & Day. BTW, in the format definition you have year-only for date checked. If you uncheck it, Bookends will output whatever is in the date field, not just the year (this applies to all reference Types).
