I moved all Bookends data (bibliographies, application support files, etc.) to my Dropbox syncing folder and then linked my Dropbox to the original locations, where Bookends expects to find the data, using symbolic links. This allows me to automatically have an instant, on-the-fly remote backup of all my precious data (bibliographies, styles, etc.).
Dropbox displays a small icon on the Mac OS menu bar, next to the clock, which spins when data is modified and synced. Interestingly, I noticed that does not happen immediately upon modifying my Bookends database. In other words, data entered on Bookends does not seem to be actually writenn on the disk immediately, but rather seems to be cached in RAM for some time.
Is this really so? I would appreciate knowing how often data is flushed on the hard disk because Bookends does not have a separate "Save" menu option (thank god!), so we rely on its automatic mechanism for saving data. The question also relates to what happens in case of a crash: Is recently entered data saved for sure? (I have had two Bookends crashes in two days, but no data loss).
Thank you very much for the info.

Re: How often is data flushed onto the disk
Bookends saves to disk every time an edited field is exited . Data are flushed to disk after every write, not cached in RAM.
