Preserving formatting (italics) in titles entered

I probably use Bookends differently than most everyone else. I assume most people search online for references they do not yet have, and let the computer enter the citation to BE. I already know my references and have a bibliography that I have been adding to for several months, before I got EndNote or Bookends. Therefore I am now manually entering those citations into Bookends. I have the bibliography section by author in Nisus. I assume there is no way Bookends can read the Nisus file and convert it to BE references, so I will continue to manually add them. I do a lot of selecting and pasting and it goes pretty quickly.
Now the problem comes when I paste a title to the bookends reference window. If that title contains some italicized text, it still is italicized after I paste it into the title box. When I close that ref window or go to a new one, the ref is added to the db, and it now shows with no formatting (ie, no italics). I can go back to a reference and change the appropriate words to italics, then it seems to hold them. But that is a pain to have to go back and do so because probably 40-50% of my titles have italics in them. The reason is that they are names of animal species or genera, which must be italicized. I have not seen a preference or other option to select to maintain format as entered. EndNote has 2 kinds of paste options, Paste and Paste Conserving Styles. The latter is what I want to do, so I do not have to go back and repair half of the titles I enter. And later, when I start searching and entering refs that way, I want italicized names in titles to be preserved as well. Can someone explain to me how to accomplish this. Thanks.

First, I deleted your other thread since there really was no problem with Bookends. I don't think xxx is a great subject title for this board. :-)

Bookends has a section in the User Guide called something like "Importing from an existing bibliography" which tell you how this can be done, in theory. It may or may not work for you.

Bookends also has Paste (which preserves styles) and Paste Plain Text (which does not). You say the text is italicized after the paste -- that will be preserved. Styled text won't show up in the list view, but will if you open the reference window again.

Thanks for the reply Jon. If I understand you correctly, even though the names in my title are no longer italicized in the reference listing, and have changed in the specific reference window to unstyled text, they should still be italicized in the Bibliography output? Yet when I go back and change a name to italicized, it is then preserved in both listings. Why does it not show in italics if it will print in italics to the bibliography?
The more I think about it the more I believe it is probably a bug. It should not be losing the italics for either display, and if it does it will probably not print in italics to the bibliography.

(Also, thanks for deleting my first post. I saw the note that I could post, edit a post, delete a post, etc. But I could not find a button for deleting the post so I tried to delete the content, but it insisted I have some characters, so that was my workaround. How do I delete one of my own posts? NEVER MIND, I edited this and see the option to delete at the top)

Styled text is not shown in the list box. Just in the reference window (editable) or in the formatted pane view. Please follow this up with tech support directly so I can see what you are seeing.
