Synchronizing with an external app.

I have a very simple question. Instead of using the built-in sync option I'd like to synchronize the database and attachments as part of my synchronizing policy of the documents folder between desktop and laptop. In order to keep all settings and preferences for the synchronized BE-folders, do I also need to sync the BE prefs file in ~/library, or are all relevant bibliographic prefs saved in the database?
