Bookends 10 to 11 upgrade

Just a moment ago I downloaded and installed Bookends 11. I have ordered the upgrade serial number but not yet received.

I can't use version 11 right now because my Bookends 10 data base of course contains of more than just the 50 entries allowed for demo mode.

Although I'm hot hot hot for the new version I will be able to wait using it until the new serial number arrives. But is it save to use both versions on one machine? They have got seperate folders in the program folder but when I try to open a database with version 11 it looks for it in the old database folder.

And after vers. 11 is up and running can I delete the Bookends 10 folder without loosing the databases?

(Bonus question: There is a Bookends 7 bookmarks file in the preferences. Can it be deleted?)

A related question: I upgraded to Bookends 11 from within Bookends 10 and have ended up with the Bookends 11 application inside the old Bookends 10 folder in the Applications folder. Is this OK, or should I download Bookends 11 from the website and start again?

It's safe to use both programs, but you can't have them access the same database simultaneously. Also, if you use Bookends 10 to open a db that was previously opened by Bookends 11 and the tag cloud view was selected, you might see some drawing artefacts. They aren't trouble, just distracting. You can get rid of them by switching to, say, the display of formatted references.

Yes (unless against all advice you moved the database into that folder!). Actually, Bookends won't even open a database if it's in the same folder as Bookends. Just to prevent unintended deletion. Remember, the database is just another file on the desktop, like a word processing document or any other file.

No. It contains the bookmarked URLs that you can access in Bookends. I just haven't bothered renaming it because it hasn't changed since Bookends 7.

That shouldn't be a problem. You rename the folder Bookends 11 Folder if you like.

BTW, any old files that were replaced will be in the Trash if you used Sparkle (which you did, apparently). Including Bookends 10. So if you want to use Bookends 10 while waiting for the serial number, you can. (One more reason we're getting rid of Sparkle).
