Simple format question

Post by louko »

This might be obvious, but I can't seem to get this: :?

My format is like this for articles:
a (d) 't.' j, v(i): p-.

The question is how do I keep the volume number and ':' when the issue 'i' field is empty? At the moment the volume number disappears if there is no issue number.

i.e.
Allen, M and Witte, K (2000) 'A Meta-Analysis of Fear Appeals: Implications for Effective Public Health Campaigns.' Health Education & Behavior, 591-615.

Should be:
Allen, M and Witte, K (2000) 'A Meta-Analysis of Fear Appeals: Implications for Effective Public Health Campaigns.' Health Education & Behavior, 27: 591-615.

Thanks!

Have you tried with the force quotes (`), doing like this:

a (d) 't.' j, v(i)`:` p-.

Alternatively, you could use this setup:

a (d) 't.' j, v(i) p-

and enter ":[space]" in the "before" field, and "." in the "after" field of "Cited Pages" box of the "Citation Options" pane of the formats editor.

I don't know if which one is the "correct" or most elegant way to do this, but one of them might work.

There are lots of ways to solve this.

One is to check "Include issue number with Volume".

Another is to use conditional groups:

a (d) 't.' j, {v(i)^v}: p-.

There are other ways, too, but I think these are the simples to explain and implement.

Hi Florestan and Jon,

Thank you for your help. Somehow forced quote is now working, which it didn't seem to before. For some reason Jon's suggestion didn't work.

Much appreciated,
Louise

Which one didn't word? If you check "Use issue # with volume" you have to remove the (i) from the format. If you want, please followup with tech support.
