Missing bibliography

Post by djaneb »

Hello

I am scanning a Pages document and Bookends is doing a great job but the bibliography isn't at the end after the scan as I would normally expect.

I haven't got a lot of time to experiment as the essay is due tomorrow and I'm not quite finished but just thought I'd tidy up the referencing and bibliography early in case there was a problem - which there is.

When I choose to scan open Pages document (or a closed document) I make sure that Bibliography is ticked. It worked fine in an essay I did a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks if you can give any pointers about what I am doing wrong. I've tried quite a few times to do it but still no final page with a Bibliography.

Please wait a few seconds after the scan is done for Bookends to insert the bibliography (it's done via AppleEvents, so if you start editing the scanned document too quickly that will interfere). In any case, realize that the bibliography is in the clipboard after the scan -- you can always do a Paste to insert it, too.

Thanks for this.

I had to do it by choosing hits and then sending them to an .rtf document because I didn't know about the pasting trick, which is good to the know about for the future.

But no matter how long I wait it never pastes to the end of the document. But I don't care because the pasting works.

Thanks heaps.

Hi,

It's possible that Pages isn't responding to the AppleEvent on your system. Please try another Mac if you can. If it works there but not on yours, please contact tech support and we can try to figure out what is interfering.

Thank you.

I tried it on another Mac and it didn't work either.

So I created a new doc from the same template and it did work - so it is not the Apple event failing.

So I copied the text of the original doc into a new doc and still didn't work, so it must be something somewhere in the formatting of the text of the document that is causing it to fail.

I can keep trying to find the cause if you want cause it works everywhere but this particular doc, but I can get the Bibliography by doing the paste, so all good.

Interesting. Since there's an easy solution, we can let it go. But if it happens with another doc, please contact tech support and we'll try to figure out what's going on.
