Hi,
I'm mid-way through a PhD and it occurred to me today to try and do a scan of the ~ 5 chapters that I've written so far. They're set up as individual word files through a master document. I got an insufficient memory error message. Can Bookends handle this? Otherwise it's going to be somewhat painful to scan each sub-document and manually assemble refs at the end.
Thanks,
Paul
Scan a Master Document?
Re: Scan a Master Document?
Hi,
Bookends only scans one file at a time. You can merge the chapters and scan the resulting file, or scan each individually (and end up with a separate bibliography for each).

Re: Scan a Master Document?
Don't know if this was cleared up or not, but I'm getting a very similar error on a single document- specifically "Word was unable to write some of the embedded objects due to insufficient memory or disk space". This is if I try to scan or even unscan, and is on a document that I previously scanned with no problems. I'm temporarily working around by using Pages, but its unlikely that my co-authors will be happy with the work-around (they use PCs).
I think this is my first scan since switching to OSX 10.6, if that helps. I'm using Word for Mac 2004 and Bookends 10.6.4. Figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Scan a Master Document?
That sounds like a Word error message of course, not Bookends, so it's difficult for me to guess what the problem is. Have you tried rebooting your Mac? If that doesn't help, what if you try another Mac? Please follow this up off-forum directly with tech support (support@sonnysoftware.com).

Re: Scan a Master Document?
Hello,
has this issue been resolved? I am experiencing the same / very similar error at the moment in a very important manuscript: "Insufficient memory or diskspace: "Close your windows and save your work." This happens every time I try to scan the document (it trys to unscan the document although I click "scan", is that right in the first place?). The document is around 130 pages, 30 MB, Word 2008 and the latest Bookends (11.0.7).
Thanks for responding,
Marco

Re: Scan a Master Document?
Unscan is always done implicitly when you scan (that why you can insert new citations and the other will be automatically renumbered, etc.).
I'm guessing your files is simply too large when it's converted to RTF and placed in the clipboard. Save the file as RTF to disk and see how large it really is.
