Specifying the pdf viewer application.

Hello,
I'm using bookends 11.0.7
I have pdf attachments downloaded from a web page.
I can open these files using the ordinary mac preview app.
I can attach these to a reference in bookends, I get the paperclick icon.
I pull up the citation and click on the attachment icon at the bottom (to show a preview of the pdf).
I am asked to enter the application to use to display the pdf file and a chooser window opens to the applications folder.
I cannot select the preview app, its grayed out.

How do i specify the "correct" viewer application?

Does the pdf's name end with the extension .pdf?

yes.

i am new to a mac and probably doing something wrong.

The pdf attachments began to work yesterday and I have not seen the dialog asking me to "pick" an application since.

So... don't know what to say. What I swear did not work yesterday is doing fine today.

Maybe a solar flare? :)
