Use of caret for in text citations in word

Hi! I am using Bookends 10.5.3 with Word 2008 on a Mac.

I am trying to insert an in-text citation that looks as such:
O'Keefe and Dostrovsky (1971)

It looks like I should enter the reference like this:
{^O'Keefe and Dostrovsky, 1971, Brain Res, 34, 171-5}

But the output from that when I scan the document is
(^O'Keefe and Dostrovsky, 1971)

Any advice?

The use of a ^ to generate citations with authors outside the parentheses was added in one of the Bookends 11.x releases. It's not present in Bookends 10.x.

You can do the same thing with a little bit of effort, though, likes this

...as previously published by O'Keefe and Dostrovsky {%O'Keefe and Dostrovsky, 1971, Brain Res, 34, 171-5}...

The % metacharacter tells Bookends to output the year only.

You can't change the citation delimiter for one temp citation. You can change it to [] for all temp citations, though (in preferences).
