Reference Types in my References Have Mysteriously Changed

Hello,

I have been away from my research bibliography for several months and now that I've returned to it, I noticed that entries that were previously categorized as books are now listed as "Artwork", as are some manuscript books. Audio recordings are now listed as "Journal Article"; manuscripts (single items and collections) are listed either as "Book Chapter" or "Journal Article". I have recently read about "Global Changes", but I have never attempted that in the past. Therefore, I am puzzled why these changes have occurred.

Has anyone else had this experience? Should I use Global Change to fix all of these errors (everything but actual journal articles seems affected)? And how can I "lock" my reference types, so this doesn't happen again?

Best,

KMSR

The text equivalents for Type are stored in Bookends Preferences. If you didn't change them there, it's possible to the preference file is damaged. To see, remove the file

Bookends 11 Preferences

from

~/LIbrary/Application Support/Bookends/

and relaunch Bookends (this assumes you have Bookends 11.1.5). After entering your registration number again, are the Types OK? If so, change your new preferences as you like and use the new ones.

Hello Jon,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I trashed the preferences file and reopened Bookends. However, it would only let me open from a backup. Fortunately, I had made one earlier today. When I opened that, the incorrect reference types were still there.

Did I do something wrong when I trashed the file?

You may have an older Bookends 11 Preferences file in your Preferences folder that Bookends was seeing when you got rid of the newer one. But if things are OK now, then, the problem is fixed. If it recurs, please contact tech support directly and we'll go into more detail.
