The journal I'm writing to requires the bibliography to be cited using the following format: (author, year), (author and author, year) and (author et al. year) - if more than 2 authors.

I have no problem with creating such format, except one issue - I cannot remove the coma between et al. and year, ie.(author et al., year). I can manually search and replace ".," with periods, but I wonder if the Bookends can automagically format my citations this way.

This is for citations in the text/footnotes, right? If so, if the format is set to use Author-Date citations you have the option to specify what goes between the authors and date. Select Space from the popup menu (this is in the Citations Options tab of the format).

Unfortunately, this is not exactly a solution to my problem.

I need a coma between author and year in case of one or two authors: (Smith, 1999) or (Bonny and Clyde, 1967).
However, when there are more than two authors, the citation format should not include the coma: (Moe et al. 1955).

I guess we need additional option there.
And BTW, I would like again ask for an option to include only the first initial letter in author/editor names - eg. "Adam C" instead of "Adams CE". This is not ultimately required, but at least one publisher insists on formatting bibliography this way.
