volume without issue number in journal citations

Hi,

a typical journal formatting looks something like this:

a (d) t, j, v(i): p-.

the problem i am seeing now is that if i have a journal which has only volume - v - but no issue - i -, the formatted reference does not contain the colon before the page numbers, bur rather lumps together the volume and the page number. in other words i get

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 6966497-500.

instead of

Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 6966: 497-500.

What can I do about this?

There are several ways to deal with empty fields in the format. Perhaps the simplest to understand is conditional groups:

{v(i): ^v: }

If you want to explore, other possibilities are covered in the User Guide.
