Detect URLs in reference data

It would be very useful if BOT could detect any URLs within any field of a reference. The MacOS X version of Bookends does that and it comes handy in linking references to, for example, DevonThink documents (x-devonthink://…).

May we hope for this to happen in a future update? Thank you.

Hi,

We can certainly look into that. Note that on an iOS device it wouldn't help with any interapplication communication, because there isn't any allowed. But it would certainly make it easier to go to the web page.

Aha! This is unfortunate… Why, Apple? So this means that any URLs of the type :

x-devonthink://ABCDEFG

will not open the "DevonThink On the Go" app? This was my original motivation for the request.

It's a great idea, but currently we can't implement it by technical reasons.

Serge,

The inability of BoT to detect URLs/URIs in bibliographic data is, at least in my usage scenario, a significant limitation. I do not know what technical hurdles you refer to in your earlier post—they may indeed be steep—but may I once again stress the need to implement this?

At least on the iOS/infrastructure side, there seems to be no obstacle: see for example http://inchoo.net/?p=802

So it seems that any technical obstacles are within the Bookends "sandbox," therefore within your control, no?

Thank you.

OK. We will try to add openURL support in the next version of BOT.

Thanks! And apologies if I sounded offhand (as it seems to me rereading my posts). I was just in a hurry.

By the way, I did not mean to request OpenURL support. Rather, I was referring to generic URLs (URIs, to be precise) in any data field. For example,
http://
https://
x-devonthink://
facetime://
