Brand new use applescript Pages question

Hi from a brand new user (4 days)!! really happy to have found such a great looking Mac-friendly ref manager after years of Endnote. I'm test driving Bookends and using the forum, video tuts and manual. As I use Pages, I tried to follow p.215 of the manual re installing the scripts for Pages. But no luck.
I deleted the scripts from the 'other' location and left the ones in ~/Library/Scripts/ Pages. Then I went to utilities, open Apple script editor, selected 'add new' went to the scripts in finder, selected them and added/clicked open Then closed ASE. I closed both BE and Pages then reopened but there is no scripts icon on the pages menu.
The manual says: If you don't see the Scripts menu, you can enable it by running AppleScript Utility and checking "Show Script menu in menu bar". I've open applescript editor but cant see this option to check anywhere.
Can anyone help with what I'm missing here. Many thanks
PS: I have my Bookends library and attachments folder in Dropbox as I want to sync my library between my desktop imac and my macbook air for travel.
PPS:Possibly a bigger question but I'm happy with pages but also have a full copy of Mellel unused. If I'm starting out with Bookends, would you advise switching to Mellel for all of my 'academic' writing that needs references. Would the learning curve be worth the ease of having Bookends compatibility? thanks again.
